Large, graceful shrub or small tree with wide spreading branches often drooping at the tips. Glossy mid to dark green leaves, often turning yellow or red in autumn. Bell shaped, white flowers with yellow stamens hang in small clusters along the undersides of the branches in early and midsummer. White berries on long pendent stalks follow in autumn.

Quite fussy about condition and may be damaged by severe winter weather. Protect from strong cold winds. Requires a free draining, moist, humus-rich, neutral to acid, sandy or loamy soil. Sun or part shade.
This is the easiest and hardiest species.

From seed, which should stored for 3 months at 15°C and another 3 months at 0 to 5°C, before sowing. Protect seedlings from frost until established.
Also from greenwood cuttings in summer.
