The young unfolding leaves are a rich dark brown in spring, turning green as they unfold. Often tinted with copper when mature. Heads of creamy white astible-like flowers are produced in summer. The flowers are unremarkable.

Moist, but not waterlogged, humus-rich soil in full sun or part shade. Will not tolerate dry conditions

By seed or division in early spring.
